Anak Nik Aziz : Daripada hasrat mahu sara, muncul No.2 Pemuda PAS

Nik Mohd Abduh mengatasi menewaskan tiga calon lain termasuk penyandangnya Azman Shapawi Abdul Rani.

Raja Ahmad Al-Hiss Raja Yaacob memperoleh 421 undi memenangi saingan kerusi naib ketua.

Selain anak Nik Aziz, anak Presiden PAS Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang Khalil Abd Hadi juga terpilih sebagai ahli jawatankuasa kerja Pemuda PAS pusat.

Show your passport if you did not travel with Altantuya and Baginda, Najib told

UPDATED PKR has accused Prime Minister Najib Razak of being the 'Male Y' equivalent in the Altantuya murder and submarines kickbacks scandal, daring him to show his passport if he had not travelled overseas with the slain Mongolian translator and his best friend Razak Baginda.

"One of them is already dead, one has been charged in court. One more is still alive and could be holding a high position. We don't know, but we will know when the trial starts," warned PKR secretary general Saifuddin Nasution during a press conference on Thursday.

Najib and Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim have been arch enemies since their days in ruling party UMNO. Anwar has accused Najib of trying to trip him with a fabricated sodomy charge even though the evidence produced so far has been flimsy.

One of the most manifestly cooked-up pieces of evidence was the DNA report from the government's Chemistry Department. The machine reading showed the presence of semen from 5 unknown men including the infamous 'Male Y' sample in the complainant's anus. The complainant had insisted he was not homosexual and only Anwar had ever sodomised him.

The DNA reading was ignored by the Chemist and glossed by the trial judge. They zoomed in on 'Male Y', which the police said matched with Anwar's.

Anwar's sodomy trial will begin on June 6 and last until June 30. He is expected to be convicted and put into jail, paving the way for Najib to call for snap General Elections, which are widely expected to take place before the end of this year.

"Without him, the ties that unite the disparate parties making up the Pakatan - PKR, PAS and DAP - are likely to fray. The process of choosing a new Pakatan spokesman could deepen the divisions within PKR as well as between the member parties,” the Economist Intelligence Unit said in its June report.

Najib's Waterloo

But what goes around may come around.

Najib now faces the prosepct of being called by the French courts to testify in the corruption case against DCN. He had in 2002 - in his capacity as Defense minister - approved the purchase of 2 Scorpene and 1 Agosta submarines from DCN, a sprawling French arms maker.

After failing to get the Malaysian authorities to begin a probe here, civil rights group SUARAM filed a complaint with the French authorities in 2009, accusing DCN of having paid kickbacks of at least 114 million euros (RM530 million) to Najib or proxies of Najib such as Razak Baginda and a firm connected to him, Perimekar. Under French law, any deal corruptly solicited is illegal and DCN can be forced to pay compensation.

Such an outcome would obviously be welcomed by Malaysian taxpayers, who have long protested the purchase of the high-tech subs for a total sum of some RM6.7 billion. However, the Malaysian government may have to initiate separate legal action to claim this amount.

It is also highly unlikely that Najib will co-operate in the French probe. He is not bound to give his testimony although his absence would immediately cement his guilt - not just in Malaysia but amongst other nations, which are watching the case closely. Clear and irrefutable evidence of Najib's participaltion in the subs deal would imply he had lied about his non-involvement in the Altantuya murder. The scandal could well result in his ouster as UMNO president and prime minister.

Again, it would be up to the Malaysian authorities to take action against him for corruption even if the French courts found DCN guilty of bribing the Malaysian parties linked to Najib. The French can only act against DCN, and it is up to Malaysia to act against their own errant PM.

“This is not a national security issue in terms of the functions of the Scorpene submarines. We are not dealing with the security aspects, we are dealing with the finance part, which is of public interest,” said Batu MP Tian Chua, who was also at the press conference.

According to Saifuddin, SUARAM's lawyers have established that subs deal had been brokered by Najib's close associates, Razak Baginda and Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) chief Lodin Wok Kamaruddin.

The Bala bombshell

Intertwined into this complex transaction is the murder of Altantuya in Kuala Lumpur in 2006. Najib has denied every knowing her and even swore on Quran to convince his supporters that he was innocent.

The Malaysian government has also steadfastly refused to acknowledge Altantuya was involved in the submarines deal, blanking out any evidence that came before their eyes. Their uneven handling of the case could be seen in the way two of Najib's former body guards were sentenced to hang for her death, while Baginda was let off scot-free.

The bodyguards are still waiting in the death row. One of them had confessed that he was paid RM100,000 to kill Altanutya. But the trial judge bulldozed his way through and both men were found guilty of her murder although no motive was ever established. Leaked US cables from WikiLeaks showed embassy officials here had been concerned about the quality of the justice the two men received from the court.

Meanwhile, a private investigator P Balasubramaniam hired by Baginda to stop Altantuya from blackmialing him for her US$500,000 share of the DCN commission dropped a bombshell when he linked Najib and Rosmah to the Altanuya murder.

According to Bala, the beautiful 28-year old had been lovers with both Najib and Baginda. It was a jealous Rosmah who insisted that the men did not pay her a cent of commission.

Altantuya to get her day in court

One way or another, Altantuya's name will surely crop up in the trial. DCN will surely be quizzed on the extent of her role in the deal, and if she had ever appeared at meetings together with Baginda or Najib.

Altantuya's cousin has previously said Altantuya had shown her a photo of herself having dinner with Baginda and Najib.

Meanwhile, current defense minister Zahid Hamidi is likely to be made Najib's sacificial lamb and deputized to attend the Paris hearings. He has indicated he will go unless the Cabinet forbids it.

“I don't think Zahid was privileged to know the travellers. The then-defence minister is in the best position to identify this mysterious person. We could call him Male Y if you like,” said Tian.

The latest bomshell from the French investigators may spark a frenzy in the Najib camp to re-organize his past travel details. In fact, during her murder investigations, it was found that "someone" from the Malaysian immigtaion had erased her entry and exit records.

Meanwhile, there is red-hot speculation Najib had travelled to Macau with Baginda and Altantuya, although SUARAM has said they were still waiting for more details from their lawyers.

Anak Nik Aziz, Hadi menang Pemilihan Pemuda

Nik Abduh, anak Mursyidul Am PAS Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat menang bertanding jawatan timbalan ketua Pemuda dalam pertandingan empat penjuru.

Manakala, Muhammad Khalil, anak Presiden Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang menang bertanding jawatan anggota jawatankuasa.

Nik Abduh Nik Aziz secured the position with 260 votes while the incumbent Azman Shapawi Abd Rani only garnered 94 from 655 ballots. Elections director Firdaus Jaafar and Youth information chief Suhaizan Kaiat took 193 and 107 votes respectively.

Ahmad Al-Hiss Raja Yaakob won the vice chief seat with 421 ballots, defeating his only competition, Mohd Nasir Zakaria, by 193 votes.

Nik Abduh later conceded to reporters that the affection delegates bore his father may have contributed to his win.

“I think that I received the extra score because some of the delegates wanted to show their love to my father. That is maybe why I received the votes,” he said.

“I plan to be a good replacement to Azman and a good assistant to Nasrudin,” Nik Abduh added.

“PAS ghairah mahu tawan Putrajaya sedangkan ia menjadi mimpi indah semata-mata.

Nasharudin wants ulamas to remain at helm of PAS

Nasharudin speaking at the opening of the PAS Youth assembly muktamar on June 1, 2011. — Picture by Choo Choy May
SHAH ALAM, June 2 — PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa has stressed that religious scholars or ulamas should continue leading the party as the faction will ensure that the Islamist party will remain strong and united.

He said the leadership of the party was fully responsible for the party’s machinery and affairs, adding that PAS was “fortunate” that it has been led and managed by the ulamas all this while.

“We are quite fortunate that with Allah’s will and the grace of fate, PAS is managed and run under the leadership of the ulamas and we pray that our Jama’ah continues to be blessed by Allah,” he said when opening the PAS Youth assembly muktamar here last night.

The Bachok MP issued a reminder to all PAS members to conduct themselves professionally and to not “allow any room” for any kind of allegations which may tarnish the image of the party.

Nasharudin, who is defending his deputy president’s post, has been aligned to the ulama faction within PAS, along with challenger Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

While party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan have been elected unopposed, the race is keen for the No. 2 post between Nasharudin, who is going for his third term as deputy president, and challengers Mohamed Sabu, better known as Mat Sabu, and Pahang commissioner and vice-president Tuan Ibrahim.

It appears to be a tussle between the ulamas and the moderates, also called the Erdogans. The Erdogan faction was almost wiped out in the last party polls as those aligned to the faction did not win the posts.

But there has been speculation that division is rife even within the ulama faction, where Tuan Ibrahim is seen as the preferable candidate over the incumbent deputy president. Reports have stated that Nasharudin is facing pressure from within the party to withdraw from defending his post.

“There has been speculation to withdraw, but I have made it clear that I’m going to stand,” Nasharudin told a press conference late last night.

However, he refused to comment on whether the ulamas in the party wanted him out of the race.

“Voting is only on Friday, today is Wednesday, we’ll see how it turns out... I can’t pre-empt anything,” he added.

Pinda sistem PTPTN

Who is the mystery man who travelled with Altantuya and Baginda to Paris

A guessing game has begun over the identity of the mystery man who had accompanied murdered Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaariibuu and her lover Razak Baginda on their trips to Paris to discuss the submarines deal.

Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's PKR party has already called for a press conference at 2 pm on Thursday to demand further clarity and transparency from the government over the RM6.7 billion acquisition, as well as full details of Prime Minister Najib Razak's role in it.

It was SUARAM director Cynthia Gabriel who piqued the public's curiosity when she announced last week that "a third person's name came up" during the French investigations.

She was referring to the lawsuit filed by her group against DCN, the vendor of the 2 Scorpene and one Agosta submarines purchase by Malaysia's defense ministry in 2002.

Najib, who was then the defense minister, approved the acquisition and he is accused of receiving kickbacks from DCN. Under scrutiny now is a 114 million euros side-deal granted to Perimekar, a firm connected to Baginda, who is his close friend.

Who can it be

Meanwhile, all eyes are on who the mystery man is.

Nearly a year ago, after being quizzed by the French financial police, Baginda's private investigator P Balasubramaniam had mentioned two new names - Major Rahim and Abdul Rahim Saad.

The French prosecutors had asked him if he knew about the two men, their background and involvement. These 2 names had not appeared in his controversial statutory declaration made in 2008, which had linked Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor to the Altantuya murder.

“Bala said these were two names the prosecutors had brought up. He has no idea who they are,” Bala’s lawyer Americk Sidhu had told Malaysia Chronicle in July 2010.

So, who are these two men? Were they part of the ministry of defense? Should not the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission have picked up the thread and begin an embarrassingly long-overdue probe at the Malaysian end?

Sad to say, these questions were asked a year ago. And till now, there is still no action from the Malaysian side. By contrast, the authorities in France are already preparing to shift the inquiry against DCN into open court in Paris. It is illegal in France for any company to offer kickbacks or bribes in order to secure a deal.

One way or another, it looks like highly sensitive information will soon be dredged out that may even be powerful enough to bring down the Najib administration.

Third possibility

There is also a third possibility. The person who travelled frequently with Baginda and Altantuya might be Najib himself.

Altanutya's cousin has previously told the Malaysian authorities that she has seen a photo of the Malaysian premier having dinner with Baginda and Altantuya in Paris.

As for Najib, he has denied ever knowing Altanutya and has even sworn on the Quran to prove his sincerity. Yet he has been unable to shake off public suspicion that both he and Rosmah are involved.

The two men sentenced to hang for her death are the first couple's former bodyguards. Neither men had prior knowledge of Altantuya or motive to kill her unless instructed or paid to do so.

Altantuya had come to Kuala Lumpur to get her US$500,000 share of the 'commission' allegedly paid by DCN to Baginda and Najib. Bala, who was hired by Baginda to keep Altantuya from harassing him and his family, had said Rosmah refused to let the men pay Altantuya any commission at all.

Altantuya had been blackmailing Baginda and threatened to blow the whistle on the entire deal. It is believed she was killed for this reason.

Malaysia Chronicle appends below the statement released by Balasubramaniam after his interview with the French prosecutors. This is his account of what transpired during the interview.

Place of interview: Direction Centrale de la Police Judiciare DNIF, Nanterre, Paris. Interviewed by M Ryckewaert assisted by an English interpreter and another officer. Interview conducted in French through the English interpreter.

Observation: The French investigator appeared to be very familiar with the events inMalaysia relating to the Altantuya murder. The interview however centred on the Scorpene submarine deal and the alleged commission paid in connection with that.

The following were the areas covered in the interview.

1) My background [including date and place of birth] and my occupation from the time I was with the Malaysian police to the time when I became a private investigator in 1998.

2) The validity of my PI (private investigator) licence.

3) The whole story as to how I was recruited to do a job for Razak Baginda and my interview before the job done by Dhirren Norendra, a lawyer practising in Kuala Lumpur. I was questioned about the scope of my assignment, the target and objectives of my assignment.

4) The background to the Altantuya murder. I briefed them on the events leading up to and after the murder and also told them to read my first SD (statutory declaration) and the Singapore interview. Also the identity of the two police officers convicted of the murder, who they worked for as well as the identity of the various other people identified as being about when Altantunya disappeared and their link to Razak Baginda and/or the PM (prime minister).

5) Razak Baginda's relationship with our present PM, the information and events narrated to me by Razak Baginda including the SMS sent by the PM to Razak Baginda at the point of his arrest for the murder of Altantuya.

6) The Malaysian company, Perimekar, its ownership, and link to Razak Baginda and his wife. Also nature of business undertaken by Perimekar. I told them of the presence of army equipment in Razak Baginda's office. Information concerning Razak Baginda and his present whereabouts.
