GEORGE TOWN : Controversial blogger Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz, better known as Kickdefella, is among the names that have cropped up as potential Barisan Nasional candidates.
A former officer with the Kelantan Mentri Besar Incorporated Sdn Bhd, Syed Azidi – who was once perceived to be a close associate of Kelantan PAS Deputy Commissioner II Datuk Husam Musa – had a much-publicised fallout with PAS last year.
His political leanings remains uncertain now, but in recent postings he has been critical of PAS.
When contacted, Syed Azidi, 40, said the choice was left entirely to Kelantan prince Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who reportedly accepted the role of the Barisan by-election machinery director.
But the Kelantanese filmmaker said it was not necessary for a full-time politician to be selected to contest in the by-election.
Other than Syed Azidi, Umno insiders said the heads of the party’s Gua Musang Wanita and Youth wings Datuk Wan Hazani Mohd Nor and Bazlan Baharuddin were also keen to contest.
For PAS, the party’s Gua Musang area deputy head Dr Zulkifli Mohamed – a doctor – is said to be among the contenders.
He had previously challenged Tengku Razaleigh for the Gua Musang parliamentary seat.
