BUKIT MERTAJAM, Nov 4 — Former Perlis mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin said he would take legal action against Malaysian Syarie Lawyers Association and Malaysian Islamic Development Training Institute (Ilim) assistant director Zamihan Mat Zain Al-Ghari for defaming him.
Mohd Asri said the association had ridiculed him in a memorandum dated Oct 12 to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin while Zamizan had cast aspersions about his qualification.
"Zamizan alleged that I had falsified my bachelor's degree in syariah from Jordan University.
"He claimed that I majored in Arabic language and literature and not syariah. They had made serious allegations. This is too much," Mohd Asri told reporters after giving a talk at the Al-Qayyim Institute, Mengkuang here last night.
He urged the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) to clarify Zamizan's allegation as he (Zamizan) was its employee.
