Night of arrests at Amcorp Mall

The peaceful Anti-ISA vigil at the Padang Timur in Petaling Jaya on 1st August 2010 turned into a night of arrests by the Police and FRU.

Minutes before 8 pm, some 300 protestors had gathered at the Padang Timur which was heavily guarded by police and FRU personnel.

The protesters were not allowed to gather at the field and were subsequently pushed back into the Amcorp Mall open carpark and the Mall itself.

By 8.30 pm the arrests started and within the hour some 24 protesters were in police custody.

Most of the protesters made a beeline to the Petaling Jaya Police Headquarters where those arrested were being held. While a group of lawyers were trying to enter the police station, a few more of the protesters were arrested at the carpark opposite the police station.
