SHAH ALAM, July 17 — One day after the death of Teoh Beng Hock at the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters, Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim declared that all state government officials can only be questioned at the state secretariat.
“We will not allow our officials to be investigated outside their offices,” Khalid told a press conference at his office here.
He added that the state government would also prepare a legal team to assist state government officials who are under investigation.
Khalid also said the state government will help the family of the late Teoh in preparing for the funeral.
“I have directed the deputy state secretary to meet with Teoh's family members,” he added.
He also called for the formation of a royal commission of inquiry to investigate the death of Teoh, who was the political secretary to Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah.
“MACC'S image has been tarnished, the people want to know what has happened and how it can be resolved,” said Khalid.
A public rally has been planned at the Kelana Jaya stadium in Petaling Jaya this weekend.
Khalid said he would discuss the planned rally with Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar.
Teoh was interrogated by the MACC as a part of the investigations into Selangor state assemblymen for alleged misuse of government allocation for their constituencies.
Apart from Ean Yong, who is also Seri Kembangan assemblyman, Subang Jaya representative Hannah Yeoh, Teresa Kok (Kinrara), Lau Wang San (Kampung Tunku), Elizabeth Wong (Bukit Lanjan) and Edward Lee (Bukit Gasing) are also under investigation.
Meanwhile, Wong, who was also at the press conference, said the MACC has to be specific in its investigation into state lawmakers.
“They have to be specific on which ADUN (elected representative) is alleged to have abused funds, we cannot allow them to go on a fishing expedition,” said Wong.
