Contest for PAS Youth Chief shaping up

PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi said that he would be defending his post in the party election this June.

Nasrudin who won the wing's top post in the 2009 party election, said he would be defending his post to continue with programmes in his agenda which he had not been able to complete.

"Yes, I will defend my post. There are other candidates with potential and the qualifications, but I am leaving it to the delegates to decide," he said when contacted.

Also nominated and eligible to contest the PAS Youth chief post are the wing's deputy chief Azman Shapawi Abd Rani, information head Suhaizan Kaiat and its general elections director Mohd Firdaus Jaafar.

However, Azman when contacted, said he would only be defending his number two post if Nasarudin announced that he would do the same for the top post.

Mohd Firdaus said he would only be contesting the PAS Youth deputy chief post, while Suhaizan said he had made any decision.

Besides the wing's top post, the four PAS Youth leaders have also been nominated for other posts including the deputy chief and vice-chief posts.

As for the PAS Women's (Muslimat) wing, it is still unclear whether the incumbent Nuridah Mohd Salleh will be challenged for the top post this time as those nominated have not made their decisions.

Those nominated for the post include Muslimat deputy chief Siti Zailah Mohd Yusof and its working committee members Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud and Asiah Ali.

The candidates' final decision whether to contest for posts in the upcoming party election will only be known after May 26.
