12 held : Burning Sabah flags

Lahad Datu: Police sent rapid reinforcements of 80 officers and personnel from the General Operations Force (GOF) and Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) after two groups involving 12 men burnt Sabah flags in the township, here, Saturday.
District Police Chief Supt Mohd Suhaimi Abd Rahman said they received a report on the act committed by the men aged between 14 and 41 at 8.40am and immediately went to the scene where they found the two groups in the vicinity.
"One of the groups was at the old harbour area near Milimewa while another at the central market," he said.
The two groups eventually converged and together rode in two four-wheel drive vehicles to the district police station where they were detained.
Suhaimi said the group leader was a Suluk man aged 41 who claimed he was a descendent of the so-called Sultan of Sulu. All the suspects had MyKads. Investigations were framed under Section 143 of the Penal Code for unlawful assembly.
He advised the public not to panic or listen to rumours as the situation was under control.
