Young M'sians must throw BN out from Putrajaya

KUALA LUMPUR - PAS Youth has urged the younger generation to come forward to end Barisan Nasional's reign in Putrajaya in the next general election.

In his maiden speech at the wing's Muktamar, its chief Nasrudin Hasan Tantawi said BN should not be given a free reign to do what it pleased and "destroy the country".

He rubbished prime minister Najib Razak’s battlecry ‘1Malaysia’ describing it as a slogan only to cover up BN’s weaknesses.

“'People First, Performance Now' is just a beautiful phrase to cover their weaknesses. In reality, our quality of life continues to drop and sadly, this millennium's generation continues to be sidelined in the country’s development.

"Let me stress that it’s time for BN to be defeated,” he told delegates who responded with applause.

Nasrudin pointed out that the series of price hikes recently on daily items only proved the BN's failure in ensuring economic well-being.

He said as a result of its failure, the government turned to the people to finance its operation.

“Clearly, the government wants to increase the country’s income by cutting subsidies, implementing new tax rules and hunting down traffic offenders,” he added.

Nasrudin said the BN had stood in the way of a "true democractic system" through rampant power abuse.

“We oppose UMNO not because of the weaknesses of the personalities in UMNO, but for their failure to fulfil Allah’s commands,” he said.

He urged the youth to join election reform movement Bersih, who has announced a mammoth gathering on July 9 calling for widescale electoral reforms and an end to manipulations.

The Youth Muktamar, held at the Shah Alam City Council auditorium, was officiated by PAS deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa.

It will be followed by the party's 57th Muktamar tomorrow at its base in Taman Melewar, Gombak.
